Director General Report
The Director General M. Mike Dubeau took some time to congratulate staff and students at Philemon Wright High School, D’Arcy McGee High School and Pontiac High School for ranking as the top 3 out of 16 Outaouais schools ranked in the most recent Fraser Report. Our other schools were not considered due to their small cohorts of students.
Annual Report
Council members adopted the Western Québec School Board’s 2016-2017 Annual Report as presented by the Assistant Director General Mrs. Ruth Ahern. It will be made available for the public shortly on westernquebec.ca.
Sport-Études at Hadley-Philemon Wright
In March 2018, the Western Québec School Board will file a new application with the MEES for a Sport-Études program at Hadley Junior High and Philemon Wright High School for the 2019-2020 school year. The new plan will take into consideration the MEES’ recommendations from previous applications.
Recognition of Ontario labour market
Taking into account the fact that 60 000 Québec residents work in Ontario, primarily in Ottawa, the commissioners passed a resolution recommending the recognition of the Ontario labour market, which is in proximity to the Outaouais region, to the MEES for training-employment opportunities during its analysis of vocational training programs.
Agreements with local police forces
In accordance with section 214.1 of the Education act, school board representatives have negotiated the terms and conditions of an agreement to determine how local police force officers will intervene in an emergency and when an act of violence is reported to them. This agreement also establishes the terms of collaboration for prevention and investigation purposes. Under recommendations of the Director General M. Mike Dubeau, Council members approved the agreement.
Renegotiation of Agreements with CSHBO
Under the recommendation of the Director General M. Mike Dubeau and the Director of Buildings, Equipment and Technology M. Pascal Proulx, Council authorized the renegotion of two agreements binding the school board with Commission scolaire des Hauts-Bois-de-l’Outaouais regarding the use of St-John’s School in Campbell’s Bay and La Cité Étudiante in Maniwaki.
Re-evaluation of 2017-2018 MB Construction Projects
Under the recommendation of the director general and the director of buildings, equipment and technology; Council members have approved a resolution requesting that the director of buildings re-evaluate the planning of the 2017-2018 MB construction projects, to include the complete renovation of 3 classrooms at Namur Intermediate School. This recommendation was following receipt of civil, mechanical and architectural professional reports. The project is evaluated at $1.2 million including professional fees and taxes.
Special Education Policy
As recommended by the Special Education Advisory Committee, commissioners have approved that the revised policy on the Policy Governing the Organization of Educational Services for Students with Special Needs be sent for consultation.
President of Elections
As recommendation by the Director General M. Mike Dubeau, the members of Council have approved that M. Pascal Proulx be named the WQSB returning officer for the upcoming November 4, 2018 school board elections.
