The Western Québec School Board believes in supporting its students’ mental wellness throughout the school year. Our schools and centres are staffed with experienced and dedicated counsellors and technicians, however there are times when children and their families need support that extends beyond our walls.
In celebration of Children’s Mental Health Week, the school board’s Complementary Services department has comprised this extensive list of excellent Canadian resources for students and their families to utilize:
811 – CISSS de l’Outaouais
Info-Santé 811 is a free and confidential telephone consultation service that covers psychological and physical health support.
CISSS – Outaouais Youth Mental Health
The services offered by the youth mental health team are targeted at youths under 18 experiencing mild to moderate mental problems, affecting their functioning and development.
Centre of Excellence for Mental Health
MEQ centre that supports the English school boards in Quebec with resources, training and information on the implementation of best practice approaches in prevention, intervention and research in field of mental health.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Outaouais (BBBSO)
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Outaouais is a non-profit organization that offers mentoring programs to young people in the Outaouais. These allow them to rely on a positive model to improve their self-esteem, develop healthy lifestyle habits and persevere them from school dropout.
Tel-Aide Outaouais
Tel-Aide Outaouais offers French-language mental health telephone support from 8 a.m. to midnight every day. Ottawa residents can call 613-741-6433 and Gatineau residents can contact 819-775-3223.
Youth Services Bureau
(YSB) provides youth and family counselling, crisis support, a 24/7 crisis line at 613-260-2360, walk-in counselling and an online crisis chat service for youth at http://chat.ysb.ca.
Ami-Québec Action on Mental Illness
AMI-Québec Action on Mental Illness is a non-profit organization that helps families manage the effects of mental illness through support, education, guidance, and advocacy.
Association des Familles Monoparentales et Recomposés de l’Outaouais
AFMRO offers support and services to families experiencing breakdown and reorganization.
Jeunesse Idem
Jeunesse Idem is a community organization that aims to improve the quality of life of young people aged 7 to 35 from the LGBTQIA2+ and questioning community as well as to raise awareness among the population of the Outaouais region of the realities of the diversity of sexual orientations. and gender identities.
Gender Creative Kids
Gender Creative Kids is a community organization that has supported trans, non-binary, and gender-fluid youth’s affirmation within their families, schools, and communities since 2013.
