Letter to Parents & Students: April 14 Teacher Strike

Dear parents, guardians, and adult and vocational education students,

On April 14 from 12:01 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., teachers in Québec are planning to exercise their right to strike to express their dissatisfaction with the way in which the negotiations of their collective agreement with the government are unfolding.

As most of our students are transported by school buses which often make several trips to several schools, this strike will have major repercussions on bus schedules and daycare services in the morning. Therefore, on April 14, Western Quebec schools will offer distance education for all elementary and secondary students. In addition, all Adult Education and Vocational Training centres will be distance learning. Distance learning will begin at 9:45 a.m. on the 14th. This decision aims to avoid logistical confusion that could compromise the health and safety of students. In addition, schools will not be able to accommodate students without the supervision required to comply with Public Health Directives.

All daycares, with the exception of the emergency daycare at Lord Aylmer Senior Campus, will be closed on April 14, 2021. The emergency daycare will open at 9:45 a.m. on April 14, 2021.

Sincerely,

Mike Dubeau, Director General

Ruth Ahern, Assistant Director General
