Letter to parents: Wearing of sanitary masks

Dear Parents, Guardians and AE/VT Students,

Following the recommendations of public health authorities, the government has announced a reduction in the sanitary measures applied in schools. As of May 14, it will no longer be mandatory to wear a mask in Quebec schools.

It will no longer be mandatory for students (including those in general adult education and vocational training) and staff to wear masks. This measure is applicable in class, during physical and health education classes held indoors or outdoors, in common areas, during travel, during extracurricular activities and during school transportation.

Please note however, that the choice to wear a mask will remain at the discretion of each individual, and therefore, the wearing of masks will be permitted in schools and centres for those who wish to continue to do so.

The Western Québec School Board will continue to distribute masks to those who wish to wear them. All other COVID-19 sanitary measures will be maintained in our schools and centres through to the end of the current school year.

Sincerely,

George Singfield
Secretary General & Director of Corporate Services and Communications
